Mission & Core Commitments
What Guides Our Work with Member Schools
Mission
NCAIS promotes educational excellence and empowers member schools to thrive in pursuit of their missions.
Core Commitments
At NCAIS, our work is grounded in a set of core commitments to North Carolina’s independent school community. Together, these commitments ensure our member schools are informed, connected, and prepared for what’s ahead.
Specialized NC Insights & Intelligence
NCAIS provides North Carolina–specific research, trend analysis, and timely updates to help school leaders see what’s coming next. Through the NC Lens, we translate policy shifts, demographic data, and emerging issues into actionable insights tailored to independent schools.
The Trusted Voice and Advocate for NC Schools
Legislative advocacy is an increasing area of focus for NCAIS and its member schools. The growing range of educational options in North Carolina—including public, traditional independent, charter, and home schools, along with expanded state voucher programs—has created a complex landscape.
NCAIS works at the state level to protect the ability of independent schools to remain self‑governing, mission‑driven institutions free from inappropriate governmental intrusion. In partnership with our legislative advocates and through our own direct engagement, we promote independent school priorities and deepen lawmakers’ understanding of the unique needs and contributions of independent schools.
A Thriving, Connected Community
At NCAIS, we believe we are better together. We intentionally cultivate connection among member schools through monthly virtual cohorts, conferences, and professional learning experiences where leaders can learn with—and from—one another. We also welcome ideas for new ways to strengthen this network of support.
Future-Focused Learning
NCAIS offers relevant, intentional professional learning designed specifically for our member schools. From single‑day workshops to multi‑day conferences, our programs help educators and leaders stay ahead of emerging challenges and opportunities. We invite you to explore our current schedule of events.
Best-in-Class Governance & Leadership Resources
NCAIS provides both educational programming and customized consulting for heads of school and boards. From our fall trustee workshops to the annual School Leadership Conference, we work to anticipate and address the evolving needs of senior school leaders.
NCAIS is also available to provide:
- Virtual workshops on best practices and good governance
- Support for heads and boards navigating leadership transitions and searches
- Strategic planning guidance and resources
- Accreditation support
- Specialized workshops on independent school trends, issues, and other topics by request
Curated Networks & Strategic Partnerships
By establishing economies of scale in the marketplace, NCAIS is able to offer programs and services that many schools might not otherwise access. These partnerships often provide enhanced benefits and risk management while also saving schools money.
NCAIS has identified and vetted key resources that support the success, sustainability, and safety of our schools. These providers work in close collaboration with NCAIS to deliver exceptional value, responsive service, and meaningful cost savings to member schools. We encourage schools to explore these resources and contact the representatives directly for additional information.
